Meet the PAWlinians

SPU Manila is home to pets that are beloved by both the students and staff. The third day of University Week was filled with belly rubs, fur sticking on clothes, and running around trying to catch a glimpse of these adorable pets.

On January 27, 2023, the most awaited Pet Parade made a comeback after years of being on hold due to the pandemic. The College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS), together with the Paulinian Environmental Society (PES), organized a program dedicated to the students’ and teachers’ lovely pets and called “Special Pals: Pet Parade and Costume Contest." There were dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes wearing creative clothing, such as gowns, superhero outfits, and bandanas. The judges’ and audiences’ coos and laughter could be heard from a mile away, with the students sending their love to our super pals.

The pet owners introduced their fur babies and answered questions from the judges about being a fur parent. The owners paraded their pets in the SPU Manila quadrangle, and the crowd did not waste time taking out their phones to snap pictures of these lovely animals.

Ms. Macy Vitangcol’s charming Corgi with its avocado bandana, Thirdy, emerged victorious in the contest. Sydney, the Siamese cat of Reuss Lunar from the Senior High School Department, won as the 1st runner up. Pommy the Pomeranian of Rochelle De Leon from BSN 3, tied with Sydney. And lastly, Mara, the iconic doggo of Sr. Felicitas Bernardo, got 2nd runner up. Mr. Anjon Galauran’s Chewie won the special raffle. Meanwhile, the rest of the contestants received certificates of participation.

The program ended with a message on taking care of the PAULIcats of the University.

Although there can only be one champion, all the PAWlinian pets were showered with love from the Paulinian community. Those wonder pets touched the hearts of the crowd and filled their camera rolls with their heartwarming pictures.
