SPU Manila's University Week Day 3 Activities Unite Paulinian Community

SPU Manila’s quadrangle was filled with furry friends as the Pet Parade kicked off the third day of University Week on January 24. The Paulinian Environmental Society (PES) organized Pet Parade for a Cause, which encouraged the participants to give in-kind donations for the chosen charity, the PAWSsion Project.
The event was led by Ms. Michelle Mijares, moderator of the Paulinian Environmental Society (PES), together with the core team head, Ms. Ana Santillan. The panel of judges, Ms. Franchesca Faylona, Dr. Brian Bantugan, and Ms. Mika Navarro, chose the following winners: the adorable duo Bo and Dicoffm, 2nd runner-up; Pomee the Pomeranian, 1st runner-up; and Coco the Husky, Champion of the competition.
Shortly after, the Paulinian Dance Troupe (PDT) took center stage, igniting the Paulinian Community with their dance moves. Despite the scorching weather, PDT brought the heat to the dance floor, grooving to the beats of the popular K-pop group, Seventeen. These same electrifying numbers had wowed the audience the previous night at Out to Groove 2024.
The SPU Manila grounds were then filled with laughter and enthusiastic cheers from the Paulinian Community as they watched the Palarong Paulino. The games included some classic Filipino favorites, like Tumbang Preso, Puk-pok Palayok, Agawang Buko, Sack Race, and Patintero. These traditional games added a touch of nostalgia and cultural fun to the event.
The Paulinian Community was successfully united by the Palarong Pinoy in a celebration of common experiences, skills, and other aspects. The enjoyable activities were a celebration to remember for all Paulinians, focusing on the strong sense of community and pride that characterizes St. Paul University Manila.
The day ended with a Eucharistic Celebration in honor of the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The Paulinian community, along with the Service Awardees, gathered at the Fleur-de-lis Theatre. Rev. Fr. Christopher Arellano presided over the Mass. His homily challenged Paulinians to “commit themselves to the Lord, until death.” This was followed by the blessing of the Service Awardees, who then led the Prayers of the Faithful.
Before the end of the Mass, Sr. Nicole de Marie Dabalus, SPC announced the launching of the 120th Foundation Anniversary of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, with the theme: Journeying Together in Synodality as Witnesses to God’s Kingdom. The congregation also launched their 5th Christological theme, “Jesus, Witness to God’s Kingdom.” A short video message from Sr. Lilia Thérèse Tolentino, Provincial Superior, was also played. She shared that this anniversary is a “call for us, Sisters of St. Paul, to faithfully follow the directions of the Church throughout our synodal journey.” The Congregation plans to continue moving forward with Mother Mary as witnesses to God’s Kingdom.
In a touching ceremony following the Mass, SPU Manila and St. Paul Center for Renewal (SPCR) celebrated the Service Awards, recognizing the dedication of esteemed employees. Notable honorees included retirees Dr. Lourna “LV” Tagay and Ms. Jeannie Guiterrez. Along with them were 20-year awardees: Ms. Judith Alderete, Ms. Abigail Valenzuela, Ms. Estelita Bustos, and Dr. Mary Grace Leongson. Awarded for their 15 years of service were Ms. Josefina Antonio, Ms. Agnes Dulo, Ms. Mary Day Tolentino, Ms. Hyacinth Tudor, and Dr. Sharon Mahusay; for 10 years, Ms. Shiela Paredes and Ms. Liezl Taroma from SPCR; for five years, Mr. Earl Jill Digma (SPCR), Ms. Lorena Dejito (SPCR), Mr. Maynard Cornejo, Ms. Maricris Duria (SPCR), Mr. Antonio Jose Galauran, Ms. Jenette Medrano (SPCR), Ms. Macy Vitangcol, and Mr. Jerome Perez (SPCR).
